Mastering is alternately put on a pedestal as a dark and mysterious art or derided as a crock of shit. As usual, the truth lies somewhere in the middle.
With a career spanning decades on both sides of the glass, Whynot Jansveld brings a musician's ear to every mastering session. Having recorded with artists ranging from The Wallflowers and Richard Marx to Sara Bareilles and Kate Hudson and regularly working with top-tier producers like Butch Walker and Linda Perry, he understands instinctively what a record needs — and what it doesn't.
The goal is music that sounds big, beautiful, and dynamic — not processed or hyped. A simple concept to be sure, but apparently elusive enough that it has made an impressive list of artists find their way to Whynot, including Dave Matthews Band, Train, The Wallflowers, Butch Walker, Richard Marx, Jewel, The Gaslight Anthem, Martin Sexton, Aaron Lee Tasjan, Elizabeth Cook, Andrew McMahon and Ingrid Michaelson.
Stereo Mastering
Final-stage processing from your stereo mix — EQ, dynamics, limiting, and loudness targeting for streaming, download, and CD. Delivered as 24-bit and 16-bit WAV + MP3. Instrumentals can be included too and will be delivered as 24-bit WAVs.
CD Prep
If you're planning on having CDs made, I'll provide a DDP that can be sent directly to the manufacturer.
Vinyl Prep
If you're going the vinyl route, I can provide WAV files for each side and a tracklist PDF.

Every project starts with a conversation. Whether you have a single ready for streaming or an album you've been making for years, I want to understand what you're going for before anything else.
Send me your mix — or just reach out with questions. Turnaround is typically one to two business days for single tracks, longer for full projects.
Files can be submitted in any lossless format (WAV, AIFF, FLAC at 24-bit or higher preferred). I'll send back listening references before final delivery, and revisions are part of the process.
